Bryan Wenzel - Life Coach

Bryan Wenzel serves as a Life Coach at Hearts With A Mission.

Why do you feel called to serve at H.W.A.M.?
When I was 17, I hit a little bit of a rocky road and ended up going to Hearts With A Mission. They cared so much about helping me out and truly made a humongous difference in my life. I left a totally different person then when I came in and realized my God given calling was to go on to help other kids in troubled situations. I decided to go to college for a degree where I can do that. I not only have a drive to help others out but it helps that I have been there, done that, so I really know what these kids are going through and what it feels like to have nowhere else to turn. From my own personal experiences, everything I learned through school and being at HWAM, I really believe that I will be able to help out a lot of kids in my life.

What is your role at the H.W.A.M.?
I am so happy to call myself an HWAM Life Coach but it goes much further than that. I am always there to talk to the kids if they have had a rough day. The kids really feel comfortable talking to me because I am a down to earth person and they know that I really care about helping them out.

What are your favorite things about working at H.W.A.M.?
My favorite thing about HWAM is that it seems like one big family. Everyone who works there truly cares about everyone in the shelter and what they can do to help. When a kid comes in to HWAM, it can be a little overwhelming and scary being in a new place with people you don’t know. Everyone is so friendly and open it helps the kids adapt better and helps them get on top of their lives so they can overcome their hardships.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My favorite thing to do with my free time is to go out and do something. I really enjoy the outdoors, motorcycles, hiking or just anything which gets my heart rate up and is fun to do.

What is one funny thing about yourself?
I am a light-hearted person and a bit of a jokester. One of my favorite days of the year is April 1st (April Fools Day). I always enjoy going up and beyond the call of duty to pull out some serious pranks. One of my favorite stories is when I surprised my wife with a saran wrapped car, bed, shower and toilet. Pair that with hiding all of her right shoes made for one funny morning. I also taped a bunch of little poppers to the door so when she opened it not only was there a big boom but confetti flew everywhere.
