Shannon Ewald- Admin. Assistant
Shannon Ewald serves as Administrative Assistant to H.W.A.M Executive Director, Kevin Lamson.

Why do you feel called to serve at H.W.A.M.?
I came to know the Lord near the end of 2006 during a difficult period in my life. Right away He began to work in my heart a love for kids and a desire to share with them so that they could know the love, security and salvation I had come to know in Jesus Christ.

What is your role at the H.W.A.M.?
I am an Administrative Assistant and wear many different hats. My job is ever-evolving and I now work with the kids less and less. However, I love that our office is at the shelter because even though most of my work is now office related, I can still connect with the kids, hear their stories and see their progress. I love being goofy with the kids and as often as we can, my husband and I like to help plan or go on special outings and events with them. We enjoy and are blessed to create opportunity for them to be kids, forget their problems, lay down the walls they build and have some true bonding moments with their peers and adults who truly care for them. It's an amazing transformation to watch as you see a youth go from being broken to just being a kid for that moment.

What are your favorite things about working at H.W.A.M.?
Strangely enough, I love it when all the kids come home from school and the lobby is filled with chatter, stories and laughter. It's harder to work but it warms my heart to hear them joking with the staff, each other and sharing their day. Some of them have never had an interested adult to greet them on the other side of the door. It makes it feel like a big family and I am proud of our staff for that. I love that I work with so many people who are of like mind in their faith, who day after day, selflessly pour into these kids. Most times, the kids that come to H.W.A.M. have not had an adult give them so much one-on-one time and invest in them no matter what they have done, have been through or what their behavior has been. I get to see my co-workers living out their faith and they inspire me to continue to do the same.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love camping, going to the coast, and I'm a huge photo-geek! I love taking pictures of my family, friends and outdoors. Most of all, I love spending time with my husband and 4 grandkids.

What is one funny thing about yourself?
I don't know if it's funny or not but I am the pickiest person I know and I didn't get my driver's license until I was 24 years old.
